Thomas Eden (1787-1845), who lived at The Bryn near the top of Sketty Lane, Swansea, was the grandson of Sir Robert Eden, 3rd baronet. The family originates in County Durham and includes former Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden, who was a son of the 7th baronet.
Eden married Frances Eliza Rodney, daughter of Capt. The Hon. John Rodney, RN (1765-1847) who was the son of Adm. George Rodney, 1st Baron Rodney (1718-1792).
