The Commote of Gower fell at different times within the old Welsh kingdoms of Seisyllwg and Deheubarth. After the Norman-English invasions it became the Marcher Lordship of Gower. And, of course, it is part of the nation of Wales within the modern United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Deheubarth was the area of south and west Wales ruled by the House of Dynefor from 920 to 1197.
Seisyllwg was a kingdom which included Gower and preceded Deuheibarth.
