Captain Frederick Hickey, RN, was a successful sea captain during the Napoleonic Wars. He was born in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire and was still living there in 1812 and at some point lived at Fynonne, Swansea. By 1817 he was in residence at Parkwern (now Parc Beck). His wife, Jane, died there in 1834, and although Capt. Hickey died in Bath in 1840. Although no longer resident in Swansea, the family continued to own Parkwern, leasing it to William Henry Smith and then Lewis Llewelyn Dillwyn, until it was sold to the Vivians in 1853.
