According to tradition, the diocese of St.Davids dates back to the 6th century. Its original Welsh name was Mynwy (Menevia in Latin), and St.David was its bishop.
The diocese covered much of south and west Wales, including Swansea and Gower, until the new diocese of Swansea and Brecon was created in 1923.
The coat of arms date back to the Middle Ages, and inspired the flag of St.David, Wales's "other flag".
